Individual Assistance Representatives (Clerks):
Provide specialized clerical assistance to support personnel by assessing taxpayer needs and directing them to the appropriate individual or area in addition to controlling walk-in area traffic flow and demands.
Identify, analyze, and makes suggestions for resolution or correction to reduce barriers impacting the effectiveness of operations and improve efficiency of the work area.
Control reporting systems that track taxpayer utilization of IRS products and services.
Examine returns, supporting documents, and monetary receipts for completeness and discrepancies, as well as monitor and track information for sampling requirements prior to transmission to Submission Processing Centers.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
